white pine transplant

Need some experts advice. I have to re-locate a 3 year planted, 4' White pine in another location. When is the best time to do this? The DOT is doing some shoulder work and said the aforementioned tree is probably going to need a new home. I have a spot for it but don't want to kill it in its journey.
Thanks.

Anytime in the fall is a good time to do transplanting of trees. On the white pine try to keep as much of a ball of dirt with the roots as possible. Good Luck

thank ya sir!

Yes fall is the best time to transplant, spring a close second. Find a local tree service that will rent you a spade for a day. It is around $100 a day rental "in Ottumwa anyway" and can be towed with a pickup truck. A 4 footer should be a cakewalk. Good luck!
