no matter what the situation just cant seem to past up those small deer? My one buddy must love to wrap that tag around the leg of that little 20 inch buck because every tag he gets thats where it goes. <font color="blue"> Who knows someone like this? </font>I hope I'm not the only one.
 
Have to agree with Muddy. Just because some of us self impose limits or standards on ourselves, doesn't mean we can force them on someone else. We all hunt for our own reasons(I hope). I have havested deer big and small, and each one means a special memory for me. If I get to the point where I'm looking down my nose at what someone else deems as a fun or successful hunt or feel like I'm in a competition, it's time to look for something else. Exception would be if that person was a guest on your property, where you have established certain rules or standards for what you would like to see harvested. If that is the case don't invite him to hunt with you on that property. But hunt with him on his place and share in his success, big or small. For me every success I get to share in is sweet.

Some people do it for the love of hunting, not for the status of being a big score only hunter. One of my best hunting memories was from one of my smallest bucks. It seems like people are getting so infatuated with killing bucks that are only a certain score that they don't have fun anymore if they don't, and fun is the reason we hunt right?
 
10-4, It is nice to put the tag on a hog. But if you end up hating the sport in the process, I would say it isn't worth it.

Well I guess the biggest mis-understanding I find is that he will complane that he never gets a chance at a brute. I understand exactly what you guys are saying. But it seems to me that my buddy is the one starting to hate the sport because he never gets the oppertunity to harvest that P&amp;Y. I feel for him because he puts in alot of time and sets up in great areas but the min. that basket rack 4 pointer steps out of the brush you better believe there will be some arrows flying. I can get over the fact that he has a passion for killing small deer but how can you complane about it. <font color="blue"> By the way those are some great opinions disscused above. </font>

Boy, that sure would take the pressure off in a hurry.
But I have to agree in that if he is satisfied and excited with the small ones, shoot away. I myself was like that when I started out as well. I now set standards and goals every year for my self that I hunt by. Maybe someday he will change and also set some standards who knows. But if he doesn't. Oh well!
 
I use to think this also about a few of the guys on the property that I hunt. One guy hates the cold, so the minute the forecast calls for temps consistently below 30 he shoots the first buck he sees because he doesn't want to freeze his butt off. I use to think what the heck, but hey it is his tag and when he is done Oct. 30 every year and leaves me another half off the farm unpressured, well it puts a smile on my face.
 
What does he say when you point this out to him?
He can shoot what he wants but if you can talk to him as a friend and get him to shoot does instead- he gets to eat and the little bucks grow bigger.
 
Next time he shoots a dink and is complaining about not getting a chance at a brute, simply look at the buck in the back of the truck and say," There is your brute, just 2 years too soon" that puts a heck of a look on guy's faces

I agree with Pharmer. If the fella truly wants to shoot a nice buck one day, encourage him to shoot does now. A doe is just as difficult to harvest in my neck of the woods as a small buck. BUT if he's satisfied with a small buck, more power to him; though I wouldn't like hunting the same property...
 
We talk every summer just before deer season starts and he says the same thing every year, "I think I will pass the small bucks this year, I really wnat to try to get a big one or two." And then the season starts.

He talks alot that if we could just get the other guys to start passing small deer and try to manage the place that we all could start killing bigger deer. But because the other guys won't contribute to management then theres no reason he should. He says that,"If I pass one then it will just get shot by someone else." I know y'all have heard this one before. Neadless to say I don't even waste my time hunting this farm any more.

I said something very similar to my best firend 3 years ago. He hasnt shot a buck since then. He also told me last month that he hasnt ever had as much fun hunting as he has these last few years.
