WHY oh WHY oh WHY ?????

Here is the hypothetical question; and some scientifcally proved facts.

1. A guy makes a new camouflage, unlike any other camouflage made before.

2. He claims it will absolutely keep deer and elk from seeing the hunter.

3. He sells this camouflage to a major hunting catalog, and they have it in their catalog for 5 years, and sell a lot of it.

4. The hunting catalog and the camouflage designer receive a lot of testimonials - about how this camouflage helped them kill lots of deer and elk.

5. The camouflage contains UV brighteners in the dyes used to make the camouflage.

6, A renowned vision scientist and a renowned deer researcher do a study to determine whether or not deer can see color, and they determine that deer can see blue and yellow, and UV light.

7. An outdoor writer gets hold of this information - checks a lot of camouflages, including this new camouflage, to see if they contain UV brighteners in the dyes used to make them - and many of the camouflages, including the the new camouflage, do contain UV brighteners.

8. The writer informs many of the magazine editors in the hunting industry that this camouflage can be seen by deer and elk, based on that fact that they can see UV light, which is reflectd off the UV dye in the camoufflage, which shows up as a bright white light to the deer.

9. The editors do not publish anything about the UV dyes in camouflage, because they do not want to lose advertisig dollars from the camouflage companies.

10. When a local newspaper writer writes a story about UV brighteners in camouflage, he explains that deer and elk can see this new camouflage, and therefore it does not work as well as the camouflage desinger claims.

11. Most of the hunters who bought the camouflage refuse to believe that deer can see in color; and they refuse to believe the new camouflage has UV brighteners in the dyes used to make it,

12. The hunters who killed der and elk wearing the new camouflage insist that it is the best camouflage ever made, and they say they "know" that it prevents deer from seeing them.

Why - when presented with the facts - do the hunters who used the camouflage - still insist that it does not contain UV dyes - and insist it is the best camouflage ever made?

I'd like to hear your ideas on this.

May Yahweh-God bless you and yours,

The question has absoluley nothing to do with the camouflage!!!

It is about why is science dismissed, but advertising hype and possible unqualified testony accepted???

I don't know how much of the above mentioned statements are true... but I do know that the almighty dollar's influence has greatly tainted the hunting industry....

The professional 'celebrity' hunter endorsements mean nothing to me... but it amazes me how many guys pay attention to endorsements..... who cares what bow Joe Celebrity shoots! But apparently someone does or they would not be able to make so much money off of these manufacturers supporting their hunting shows.

The thing that troubles me the most is all the deception creeping into the hunting industry. Outdoor articles are becoming more like this all the time. Editors just looking for a story... some of the junk being printed in some of the main magazines is just plain false.

I dont know what to tell you? I have never been a follower and have always made up my mind based on what I think or have learned over time. However, there will always be sheeple.....I have given up on protecting them long ago.

Glad someone is still looking out for their interests.

Another thing related to this, in a round about way, is peoples ability to be able to admit when they, or how they may have errored in their decision making process. I have always been taught that people who are able to admit fault or error are truely the wisest! This is proven true every day. Failure to do this will just compound your problems in any aspect of life. Food for thought. Sorry, didn't mean to sound like anyone's Dad.

the only time this "camoflague" will get widespread exposure as being inefficient, is when the big "camo company" comes up with a new product that meets all the earlier claims. then, of course, they will claim that the new product is far superior to their earlier product.

p.s. isn't there a sent free detergent that nullifies the uv brightners?

DITTO

The hunting shows have slowly turned into half hour commercials. Rarely do I watch any of the that because of what Cornfed said. I know there are some exceptions from time to time, but it's a waste of time, IMO to sit through all the crap to maybe pick up a hint or two. I dare anyone to prove to me that Jackie Bushman, Wally Dallenback, Hank Parker, and Tiffany Lakowskie (sorry boys) are top notch hunters.

I know several outstanding hunters and they ain't on TV.

why is science dismissed

Is science being dismissed or is this just publication bias. It has been long known that the medical literature has a bias towards positive results getting published. People that fund the studies don't want bad news or if it can't be dismissed it is minimized in the text. Exactly why Vioxx ever made it through to the public and even then got written into the guidelines by several major organizations as a first-line agent for pain. I bitched and moaned and wrote a decent editorial that got squashed by the authors that were partially funded by Merck(makers of Vioxx).

Personally I feel all of these self appointed saviors of everything good and enemy of everything evil generally have a personal agendas.. It's not as if they really want to save us from ourselves, they just want to be king. Right Ralph?

Too many people believe what they're told...hunting industry is no different.

Like Timothy Leary said, "Think for yourself, question authority."
