Apply Now For Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program
3/13/2009
Landowners can apply now for the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) through the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Applications received prior to April 15, 2009 will be considered for the 2009 program.
The WHIP program is a voluntary program for landowners looking to improve and develop wildlife habitat on their land. Through WHIP the NRCS provides technical assistance and up to 75 percent cost-share assistance to establish and improve fish and wildlife habitat.
To be eligible a landowner must devote at least 10 acres to the wildlife practices provided by the NRCS. The agreement between the landowner and the NRCS usually lasts from 5 to 10 years.
To find out more about the WHIP program contact your local NRCS office. To find your local office visit, http://offices.sc.egov.usda.gov/locator/app?agency=nrcs.
