I am really pumped for this weekends youth hunt with mchunter (my son zach). We are going to start in the AM looking for the deer in my trail camera post Split G3/Bonus buck. I am just as excited as I will be October 1st. It all feels very right. I hope we can post the first harvest report photos of the season. Best of luck to all the young hunters heading out this weekend.

CamoKid and I went out tonight, and got skunked. Lots of activity in the area, but none passed by tonight. We'll try the same blind in the morning, and then rest it for awhile. The next chance we can get out will be Thursday night. Not too worried, because if he doesn't score, we will be heading east of Cedar Rapids next Saturday to hunt where the 'Kid got his first deer a couple years ago. Plus, a friend is going to film the hunt. He does some camera work for the Drury videos, so it should be fun. . . if CamoKid doesn't get one before that. Sure is fun hanging out wiht him. Can't get enough of it.
 
It's great to see everyone pumped up about taking their kids out. Need to keep the youth interested. I was in CIA today and a guy came in with his girl, I'd guess about 12, who just shot her first buck. It was a great 8 pointer. Can't wait til my kids get old enough to go out. I'll be looking forward to Sept for them just as much as Oct for me. Some cooler weather sure would be nice about now.
 
if you have never taken a kid hunting, you should try it. I had the best time of my life hunting with my cousin tonight, and watching him shoot a dandy. I can still see the look on his face when his biggest buck to date dropped right in his tracks

I couldn't believe how fun it was just to sit out there and watch someone else doing the hunting, and it helped that i had my video camera, so my attention was focused on getting footage

Zach managed to take his first bow deer, a nice doe. I'll have him post details and a picture when his homework is done. I will say I did not enjoy the weather very much. I may wait until it snows to go back out.
