Thinking of warmer months

I'm starting to get the itch to get back north to Canada for some fishing. I realized I never posted pictures after the trip dad and I had last year with some friends so thought may as well share now. We're going back again this year, same time and place. Russ is coming along and some different friends. Should be great!

I used photobucket to post these photos so if you don't have the "fix" installed to view PB pictures when using Chrome you may not be able to see these pics...

"Dad and I just got back from the fishing trip of a lifetime. We caught more and bigger fish than I think either of us ever will again on a single fishing trip. It was wild. We didn't count but I'd say safely over 100 northerns 30-45" or 7-20lbs were caught be our group of 6 in 5 days. Unbelievable trip!
I took many pictures and videos and will share some highlight pics for now. Someday I'd like to put the vidoes together into a 5-10 minute video but we'll see if I can find any free time. :shifty:
On the drive up and ran across a fresh road kill - a semi jack knifed in one ditch and this bull laying in the other...

We flew out of Red Lake, Ontario and flew 150 miles north to our outpost for the week

This hog actually got caught by both dad and myself. Funny story: I set the hook and knew I had a big one on and wasn't really paying attention to dad and said "grab the net!". He laughs and says "you grab the net" as he just set the hook into a big one too. We both laugh and begin reeling in our fish and soon find out... we're reeling in the same fish! At first it appears it actually bit dad's line and my line just got wrapped around it so I drop my pole, open my bale, and net the fish. I set the net on the side rale of the boat and we both begin laughing and as we're laughing the fish flops out of the net and back into the water and snaps dad's line! I begin to reel the fish back in and dad nets it this time. Turned out my lure and dad's were both hooked right into the roof of it's mouth. Those fish were HUNGRY and super aggressive!

We started out the week throwing spoons but spinner baits ended landing more and bigger fish. Around day three dad figured this out. Hard part about the spinner baits is they have one single hook vs a treble hook on a spoon so getting a solid hook set was harder so we jimmy rigged some trailer hooks on our spinner baits. Huge help!

So many nice sized fish had big wounds on them - we knew there were some sows laying in there ready to attack!

Walleyes were super aggressive as well - we caught tons from 13-23" and other guys in the group caught a 28 and 29" walleye. They were hitting on anything as well

Even managed to hook a minnow - lots and lots of bait fish were hanging out at the inlet to the lake

The camp - we had two Honda generators that they ran mixed gas in, which is not reccomended. They ran rough and we had to change out spark plugs twice during the week. :?

We could go back to this same spot, same time of year, and have a hard time topping this trip. Perfect weather and some of the best fishing for nothern pike in the world!

Looks like an awesome trip. What outpost and flight service did you end up using if you don't mind sharing. I too, am ready to get back up north for some fishing. Thanks for sharing

Also, I don't have the photobucket fix on my phone and couldn't view the pics, but can see them while using the Tapatalk app.

You bet! Here's the website to the outfitter. Dad went there 25 years ago and then again last year. Somethings had been improved and we gave them some areas to work on before we came back this year. The fishing was unreal. Dad's been to a number of different locations in Canada and taken us along on half of them, the fishing on this trip was better than any other place.

$1350 per person for a 5 day fishing trip (food, gas, lodging, lisc, everything). 2 days of travel on top of that. Not a bad deal!

Omg!!! I wanna go!!!!

2 totally random side things.... how does a guy get “mixed gas” only to run in a Honda? Like oil mix?? What the world?!?!

2nd- can we get u off photobucket?!?!? Those PB nazi’s gotta go!!! :). Ha!!!

Awesome trip. Yes- I am working on Planning trip too. So great. My issue last year was “way up in lake of woods”..... still- TON of dudes fishing. Like “what the world- thought we were in middle of no where?!??” I wanna find giant fish that haven’t been pounded all year. Don’t care if pay more.
Well done, heck of a trip!!!

Dude... this lake you are the ONLY cabin on the lake. Other than some RUN DOWN Indian shacks that they periodically fly-in and stay for a few days. We have gone the first weekend the outfitter opens their outpost. The last people to fish the lake were back in Oct/Nov... no body has fished the lake in 6 months! These fish were as un-pressured as you get.

Ya... those spark plugs were getting fouled in days... not a good deal when that's what you depend on for water and electricity. We ended up not being able to keep the pump running to pump water into the "water tower" for showers so we'd take very very quick dips in the lake. That water was stupid cold! ice had just gone off the lake a week or two before we got there!

And lastly... photobucket... what else are guys using!? I'm old school a bit I guess. haha
