We have a small group that hunts together (3-4) for the first shotgun season. One of the members has a landowner tag. I know that he can only use that tag on an animal shot on his own property, but can he still party hunt with us on another property.
Well, I finally made it out yesterday. Nothing to report though. It wasn't a bad evening to sit, but the weather conditions did change my plans. The wind was blowing about 20-25 mph and gusting over 30 mph, so instead of sitting in an oak flat on a ridge top I settled for a riverbottom funnel...
Way to go!! Great buck and a great story to go along with it. That just goes to show us that with all the fancy stuff we buy, nothing can replace knowing your deer and your area. Being in the right place at the right time is the name of the game.
Hey guys,
Great topic!! Several years ago I started keeping a hunting journal using an excel spreadsheet so that I could try to pick up on patterns and trends of the deer that we hunted on our property. It was really neat for 5 or 6 of us to have all of our sightings and observations stored in...
The only way to really know is to record everything and then analyze your observations and look for patterns. I will say that the observations our group has over the last few years, 49% of our mature buck sightings have been during a full moon phase.
I also believe from data we, and others...

You are right. I have seen overwhelming observation data that shows temperatures of more than 10 degrees above normal have a huge negative effect on movement, 20 degrees above normal will typically shut things down. It can be a little more below normal with colder temps, but even that will...
I forgot to say thanks Bonker:grin:!
Seriously though, I hope people take some time to check out what we have to offer. I don't think anybody understands how much you can learn by keeping a detailed journal that can be searched and sorted for virtually any circumstance. Anybody that is into...
This is a great topic, one of my favorites! Although I will agree that good things can happen anytime we step in the woods, I am a firm believer in gathering data from each hunt and keeping a record of it that can be used down the road to help us be in the right place at the right time. I don't...
Brassicas make for a great food plot. We have been planting them for many years and have always had great hunting over and around them. It seems like activity in the plots varies from year to year, but generally the vast majority of activity will be after a hard freeze.
The biggest plot we...
A lot of really good advice already. I will throw in my 2 cents. I have had really good luck backing them into the brush and tieing off to as much as possible. Staking it down will only do so much.
Where I hunt at wind has never really been to much of a hazard, but snow and ice are a killer...
I have thought about getting those, but have been wondering if they really work as well as the video shows. We have 6 or 7 doubles and they are a bear to put up. These would make things a lot easier. Thanks for the info!
