Shotgun can be tough to hunt solo, especially for a new hunter. That’s how I started out over a decade ago, just sneaking around, as a teenager out on public land, I shot a small 5 point my second season, then got into archery and have had so much more success and fun.


I will say that your posts are fun to read, you’re a good writer. You sure your not an author and instead of a paramedic?

Sorry to hear you didn’t get a deer but glad you got out and gave it your all.

I think next year I would try first season. Yes it's shorter but the deer haven't been shot at yet and are still moving around more. Second season after being chased around and shot at for 5 days then hide out a lot more.

We hunted second season a few years going with the same argument that without time off from work during the week having two weekends to hunt vs one was better. We'll we had some ok years and some lean years. About 3 years ago we switched back to first season and had a lot of success.
