bonker and randy can probably add alot more to this (bonker was taking notes), but i wanted to pass along something dale gardner said, that needs to be heard. its too bad we can't get this kind of recognition in the media.
dale praised the iowa resident hunters for adapting to the call for more herd management. the DNR asked for help, by taking more does, and hunters stepped up. other states complain that they can't "force" their residents to change their ways.
he also commended the IBA memebership. those letters and calls to the legislature really make a difference. if it weren't for those of you that answer the call, and make those calls and letters, the face of iowa deer hunting would be VASTLY different.
another fact i found interesting, they said that 17 counties would be dropped from the bonus antlerless seasons altogether, and that 8 others will see a decline in antlerless tag numbers available. for the most part, deer numbers are at a level the DNR is happy with. there are (of course) exceptions in the southern 2 tiers of counties, and a few in the NW corner of the state.
