Regulation on POSSESSING GAME AFTER THE SEASON
You cannot possess game or furbearing animals or their pelts, except for deer venison, more than 30 days after the close of the season for that species. A person having lawful possession of deer venison which is taken with a valid deer hunting license may hold the venison from the date of harvest until the following Sept. 1. From Sept. 1 until the first day of the next open deer season for which the person holds a valid deer hunting license, the person shall not possess more than 25 pounds of deer venison. Any person may possess up to 25 pounds of deer venison if the deer was obtained from a lawful source. A permit to hold for a longer period may be granted by the department.
I was reading through the regulations and came across this. What am I supposed to do on September 1, 2004; throw away all venison I have left over 25 pounds? I'm tempted to apply for the permit just to be difficult. Dumb law if you ask me. What's the reason behind this law?
