I have been using sitka for over three years now and have both the fanatic, down pour and stratus series. Absolutely the best gear I have ever used. I agree the the only down side to the fanatic series is the material will pile when walking through brush and you will have to pluck vegetation...

Think of firmware as a software upgrade to your trail am. As manufacturers update their camera software, they will put out firmware updates to make your camera up to date with the technology and software they are using. Hope that helps.

Have an encore that I bought from a friend, but it came with 2 7mm mag and ultra mag barrels. Doesn't help me here in Iowa since I am a resident now. Need a .50 cal barrel. Thanks.

Being new last year to Iowa and northern MO, I used the fanatic series exclusively all season. Coupled with the correct layers I never had an issue. It is pricey but it is also quality. Just my two cents worth.
