Public Land Slobs...

It's a tree stand in a tree to long...what is it hurting? Yes it is against the rules and I agree about the trash... Some replied with, "is it free for the taking?" Once again it's a tree stand that was left to long...if someone illegally parks in a no parking zone is there car free to take? No, you're just as crooked as the guy that stole the father and kids belongings...Grow up take care of your parks... You don't like it then don't hunt it... It's that easy... Grown men complaining about a tree stand that isn't bothering a thing... Having them up year round attract the big ones or what?

I've come to really rely on my Lone Wolf climber considering I only hunt public.

Welcome to Iowa... In five years if you don't own land you won't be hunting at all...take your lone wolf kill your deer and and stop worrying about a tree stand while you're shed hunting public land...

looks like typical public hunting land, no one knows how to read the rule book. Thats why I always carry extras with me in zip lock bags and tape them to violators treestands

So you litter as well? What do you think happens to that sign?

In my opinion Iowa should adopt the same sort of law Wisconsin has, and that is that you can't leave stands up overnight on public land, ever. That would cut down on the bullcrap a little bit, just make everyone pack in a stand and sticks and pack them out when they're done. I hunt both public and private land and it pisses me off to no end to find stands still up this time of year on public ground, as well as all the trash. Some guys just have no respect for the law or other hunters, or the environment.

That is a terrible idea.

That is a terrible idea.

2nd the terrible idea of adopting the WI law.

I went to college for wildlife management, worked for county and state parks, even worked for the IDNR on a 14,000 acre chunk of public land, and for Missouri Dept of Conservation on a 20,000 acre piece of public land. After two years, I was so sick of "people management" I completely changed my career path. It gets really old picking up other people's trash because they're too lazy to take care of it themselves.

People forget that it is a privilege to have access to public land and waters, not a right! I wish everyone that littered or left their "crap" on public places received their rightful FINES because that's what they deserve.

I hate turning a blind eye, but man am I thankful for the private land I hunt.

How is it now a right? I pay my taxes so I have the right to hunt there.

The way you talk, seconding the "terrible" idea is not what you meant. Sounds like you meant to say you second the WI law?

Son, I was scouting for my fall bowhunt there, not shed hunting. I have 4 points and will draw. I did not pick up any sheds because I wasn't looking for any. I pick up trash regardless if I'm in Illinois or any state I'm visiting. I GPS and call in any stands left on public wherever I go. I also turn in poachers wherever they are. Turned one in last November on IL public - JEPC. CO was very happy. Dude lost his truck & bow, got 30 days jail time, lost hunting priviledges in 35 states (including Iowa, where he was previously caught poaching turkey).

I have played by the rules for 40 years and intend to continue to do so, wherever I go. Don't tell me what to do, boy.

That's the rules. Don't likem?............don't hunt public.

So you're shed hunting on public ground and you find a dead buck. You take the head, throw it in the back of the truck and go home. You just broke the law. You need approval and a tag from your CO to possess that head. My point is, there are a lot of rules and regulations. Do we only complain about the ones somebody else is breaking?

Boy?? Ok "dad"... Stay in illinois and hunt if you don't like the way people hunt public land...I have ground to hunt and choose to stay away from public ground...in my opinion you shouldn't be allowed to hunt public ground...keep the out of staters away... Look at the pheasant population in southwest Iowa... Years ago you would see all kinds of out of staters here hunting them... Why? Because it was easy... Now you walk five miles and might see a hen if youre lucky. What happened to the out of staters? I guess you can pout all you want about a tree stand hanging in a tree for longer than it should be and hurting what??? Yeah it's the law, but just like every other American I catch myself not wearing my seatbelt or speeding at times...do you turn in people that speed? Your life is in danger when that occurs "dad." Worry about your Illinois problems first! Go Hawkeyes!

Carry your tree stand in and out everyday?? Best of luck with that one...

We are all hypocrits. Who carries out their toilet paper after taking a dump on public land? ;) The trash does get old for sure. Stands hanging after season never bothered me. It lets me know where others are hunting and where to avoid.

Yeah it's real hard.

Please explain to me what that tree stand is hurting??? I understand it is against the law... Not one explanation of what it hurts though...is it in the tree you are wanting to put your stand? Does the big one run to tree stands that hang longer than they are supposed too? Did you hit your head on it shed hunting? Com'on isn't there something better to complain about? It's a tree stand...

This same debate has been going on in Minnesota for a few years now. The main problem seems to be that, the "owner" of the tree stand that has been there the longest tries to claim ownership of the area the stand is in. I have read countless stories and game warden reports, and that is the conclusion I have drawn. The Wisconsin Law about packing it in and packing it out the same day tries to avoid this situation. I have also heard of people going "shopping" in the spring on public lands in Wisconsin. I personally havent done that or approve of it, but I'm sure that person will think twice about leaving a stand up for that amount of time.

So by what you posted above you will never go out of state and hunt or fish public land/ waters??? and you pheasant comment makes no sense.. no one is going to travel to hunt where there are no birds, I hunt in SW iowa and i wont even pheasant hunt as its not worth it..not sure if your trying to blame the NR for the decline of pheasants or what.. but if so your foolish.

I will but... Will I complain because someone has a stand up on public ground to long?? No... One it's not your responsibility to go patrolling for deer stands in the offseasons...get over it...it's a tree stand...(or get on Iowa whitetails and cry about it) you shoulda become a dnr and you could solve these problems yourself superman...
